'Introduction to Frank Hyde's gallery'.

This virtual gallery was started in July 2002 and there is now over seventy images in it (2024). Alan Hyde, a great great grandson of Frank's father Captain Francis Hyde, assisted with the initial creation of this gallery by supplying many images.

The expansion of the gallery is heavily dependent on receiving images of existing pictures and obviously many people have been very generous in this regard.

If anyone has improved images of some of the paintings and engravings illustrated in this gallery I would be pleased to receive them.

Digital cameras started to be widely available and used a few years after I developed this site. Thus it is now (2024) much easier to deal with digital images sent to me instead of scanning postcard size photos.

I have chosen the gallery format such that new pictures can be added shortly after they have been received. I try to put new pictures in as soon as they become available.

Note:
On the 20 October 2017, a cousin - Ken Hyde, sent me an email with a file attached containing a list of every reference to Frank Hyde the painter that is contained in the "British Newspaper Archives".

The extensive list is in chronological order but it has not been fully corrected for spelling mistakes etc. so in places it is possibly a good example of the capabilities of early OCR technology.

The PDF file below, which is available for download, could form a good starting point for research into the life of Frank Hyde.
