'Got Him at Last'
|
Originally this painting was produced for a Raphael Tuck card. The original painting was sold by Frank's daughter Florence Mina Georgie Leila Hyde, and her daugher Elizabeth requested Frank to paint another, which is depicted above. Frank seems to have had an unusual sense of humour and this particular picture is said to have nearly resulted in him being excommunicated from the Catholic Church. Below is another version that Chris Thompson of London, England recently sent (Oct. 2015), and it may well be the one that Frank's daughter (Florence Mina Sylvester-Bradley - née Hyde) sold. ![]() Approx. image size - 11"w x 12"h (Gouache on Water Color Board?) ![]() Chris Thompson wrote: "The writing looks similar to the reverse side of ‘Little Samuel’, so it might be written by Frank Hyde himself." The writing on the back of 'Little Samuel' is by Frank's brother George Cecil Hyde. At the moment I can not locate a sample of Frank's writing to compare it (I have one somewhere). Perhaps the address is one of the residences in London where Frank or his father sometimes stayed ![]() |
