Painted circa 1908. This is one of a pair and shows the rear view of the hut. The figure illustrated is probably Mr Septimus Ryder - uncle of Phyllis Clements (daughter of Frederick de la Hyde).

In 1908 Frank visited two of his brothers, Frederick and Benjamin (Ben), in Eden, New South Wales.

Frederick de la Hyde
Approx.1908

Frederick (1850 - 1923) was the next oldest brother to Frank.

Frederick lived in America from 1870 to 1886 and it is believed that he was a sheriff in Texas for a period, where he mastered the art of whip-cracking. He became a good friend of Buffalo Bill.

Many years later when Buffalo Bill was touring England, he spotted his old friend in the crowd. He called Frederick into the arena and asked him to do a display with whips. Afterwards Buffalo Bill gave Frederick an ornate Western saddle.
