Ken Hyde sent me an email bringing to my attention page 62, of the December 1894 edition, of Scribners Magazine, which was for sale at "Katie's Attic":

With the assistance and interest of Loretta Higgins, a proprietress, I managed to obtain it reasonably quickly.

Scribner's Magazine was first published in January 1887, by the publishing house of Charles Scribner's Sons, which spent $500,000 to compete with Atlantic Monthly and Harper's Monthly.

The magazine was noted for its images, both engravings and later color images. It was also noted for the quality of its articles. it ceased publication in May 1939.

The footnote under the advertisement for "The Franco American Food Companies French Soups", illustrated by Frank, states:

A beautiful copy of this picture, in buff colour, size 13x16 , mounted on a sheet 21x29, will be sent postage prepaid as a special Christmas offering, on receipt of 20 cents (stamps accepted) or else by sending us six of our “little cook” cut out of the colored label pasted around our cans.

We offer this souvenir as a reminder that your Christmas dinner should include a can of Franco-American Soups and Plum Pudding. They will render it a merry feast indeed.
