In the picture above, one man is directing the crane to position the concrete skip. Behind the forebay can be seen the white concrete low pressure penstock pipes.

are clearly seen.
Mclaren Falls road originally went on the lake side of the canal inlet structure. This protected the inlet structure when it was under construction.
Then a new roadway bridge was built over the inlet structure, and the old road excavated to allow the flow of water from the lake.
