CATARMAN, PROVINCIAL CAPITAL OF NORTHERN SAMARThe figure depicted on the left is Augustin Sumuroy who led the first organized resistance against the Spanish colonizers in 1649-1650, in order to defend the rights of the native people against foreign abuse and slavery. The University of Eastern Philippines is located in Catarman and this the biggest university in Eastern Visayas|Region 8 having 3 campuses (UEP Main, Laoang and Catubig) and caters for 30,000 students.
