UNIVERSITY OF THE EASTERN PHILIPPINES - PART 1
I have visited Catarman several times as my wife, Myrna, spent most of her life there until qualifying with a Bachelor of Science in Agri-Business in 1985.
This year - 2012- I decided to incorporate some photos of Catarman and UEP in my Philippines website.
I have gathered some basic written information on the University, mainly from Wikipedia, which follows on below.
The University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) is located approximately 3.5 km. east of the town of Catarman.
UEP has 3 campuses - UEP Main (owns 4,500 hectares of land in Catarman), Laoang and Catubig. UEP runs extension programs throughout Samar and caters to about 30,000students.
The school started in 1918 as the Catarman Farm School (CFS), became the Catarman Agricultural School in 1918, was renamed the Catarman National Agricultural School in 1951. In 1956 it became the Samar Institute of Technology (SIT) offering mostly agricultural and technical courses, until it was declared as a university (UEP) in 1964. The change was made to facilitate the provision of a more extensive liberal education in the arts, humanities, natural and social sciences, and engineering and technology.
The University consists of the following colleges and departments:
UEP Primary and Secondary Laboratory Schools, College of Agriculture, College of Arts and Communication, College of Business Administration, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Law, College of Nursing, College of Science, College of Veterinary Medicine, Graduate School.
The main campus in Catarman is divided into three barangays - UEP Zone I, UEP Zone II and UEP Zone III.
Because I required more than one page to illustrate the University, I have included links to the other pages below:
