MATABANG PORT, ABRA DE ILOGMatabang Port, Abra De Ilog, is about 2.5 hours by RORO ferry from the Port of Batangas. Myrna and myself travelled there on the way to the Capital of Occidental Mindoro - Mamburao - about 31 km away from Matabang Port. Incoming cargoes are mainly household goods and construction materials, and outgoing cargoes mainly consist of rice, livestock and corn. Basically, Matabang Port can be regarded as the northern gateway to the province of Occidental Mindoro. From Matabang Port one can hire a tricycle to go to Poblacion, which is the local Municipal Center of Abra de Ilog, and is located about 7 km from the port. From the port of Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, pump boats travel to Matabang Port. Abra de Ilog regained it's status as a municipality in 1915 when the Rep. Act. 505 created the "New Province of Occidental Mindoro". It consisted of eight municipalities - Abra de Ilog, Looc, Lubang, Mamburao, Paluan, Sablayan, San José and Santa Cruz.
